After his release from prison, one man makes it his mission to right a terrible wrong by revealing a secret that could end his life. Scott Adkins stars as Kris Chaney, a warrior who seizes the daughter of a Colombian gangster to fulfill a noble promise to the young girl’s mother. When her father enlists both the criminal underworld and the terrifying psychotic killer El Corvo (Marko Zaror) to exact his revenge, Kris will need to draw upon everything he has ever learned — in and out of lockup — to stay alive and keep his word.
There was hype around this film, as much from the cast as well as early buzz from critics and i’m glad to say that it was justified with the film hitting all the right notes in terms of action and story. Yes believe the hype Action and Martial Arts fans rejoice we have ourselves a bonafide cult classic in the making, harking back to films gone by that provide story and action in equal abundance, you can’t wait until the next action piece literally kicks in and both Scott and Marko do not disappoint. You know when you get Marko Zaror and Scott Adkins together there’s now an expectation, you look at past encounters on screen with Undisputed 3 even being one of Scott’s favourite action moments they have to and do deliver with Diablo.
In this feature I actually think Marko Zaror steals the thunder as this relentless terminator type villian that you love to hate but want to see more of as the fights get more brutal with each encounter. Marko sports a metal hand reminiscent of Han from Enter the Dragon that turns into a blade and gives Scott a run for his money as he despatches other with ease. Its a fantastic role for Marko and the level of athleticism from both our leads is truly remarkable.
Ok so i’ve banged on about the action for two paragraphs but that’s what you want from a Scott Adkins film and that’s what you get and I for one am not complaining.
Diablo is so far our action film of the year its bold, brash and beautifully orchestrated to provide action film fans with all the entertainment they need.
