In a remote mountain village of 15th-century Joseon, a humble headman, Heung-do (YOO Hai-jin), hears a rumor that any village hosting an exiled nobleman will be blessed with abundance and fortune. Hoping to bring prosperity to his impoverished community, he eagerly submits a petition to host one—unaware that his guest is none other than the fallen monarch, the deposed boy-king Danjong (PARK Ji-hoon).

While an unlikely bond begins to form between the dethroned ruler and the man assigned to watch over him, the quiet village finds itself drawn into the perilous undercurrents of royal intrigue—where loyalty and survival collide.

Director Chang Hang-jun tells the story of the King Danjong not from the documented or indeed known point of view but from seeking out and discovering about the King from historians and then filling in the blanks, so to speak.  The story brings you closer to the human interaction and development of characters as two very different worlds collide but at the same time also brings a sense of warmth and heart felt meaning to both the humble headman and the King.  A freindship that grows on you, and as a viewer, you actually feel part of. The story is anchored with a fantastic perfromnce by Park Ji-hoon as the King and it needed to have a strong character actor to play alongside him and Yoo Hai-jin was cast brillinatly as the humble village headman who befreinds the king.

The King’s Warden is both powerful and poignant and comes highly recommended. A smash hit already in Korea its a tale that will sit with you long after the final scene, a film that delivers in both story and entertainment.  The King’s Warden is a Smash hit and deserves its success.
