The Wide West Directed by Joe Cornet stars Alexander Nevsky, Tatiana Neva, Nick Baillie, Ichi & Hiroki Sumi
Three-time Mr. Universe Alexander Nevsky joins Sumo Champions Hiroki Sumi (John Wick 4) and Ichi (Ballerina), and also Nick Baillie (Malicious), Tatiana Neva (Taken from Rio Bravo) in an epic Western adventure from director Joe Cornet (A Prayer For The Damned).

1907. A professional gambler Max (Alexander Nevsky) aids the traveling Japanese sumo wrestlers (Hiroki Sumi, Ichi), the local Judge (Nick Baillie) and beautiful store owner Sybil (Tatiana Neva) against ruthless outlaw (Joe Cornet) and his gang who have attacked a small Californian town.

The film is inspired by true events: in the beginning of 20th century, the first-ever sumo delegation from Japan, led by the great Sumo wrestler Hitachiyama, traveled through the United States to Washington D.C., where they met with President Theodore Roosevelt.
Special Screening at The Japan Foundation Los Angeles

The Wide West is a BIG western in every sense of the word. It’s the third western from Joe Cornet and Alexander Nevsky but takes a BIG step away from Gunfight at Rio Bravo and Taken From Rio Bravo (Review can be seen here). This time Alexander Nevsky plays Max and Joe Cornet steps in front of the camera as the ruthless outlaw Jarrett who seeks revenge on the Japanese men for the death of his brother.  This literally is a BIG western with Alexander, Hiroki and Ichi, damn their BIG. thats doesnt mean that production isn’t either, with sweeping shots of the frontier Joe Cornet takes his western to a new level and it’s a fun, fist and gunfight feature that will certainly entertain you.

A great supporting cast with Nick Baillie (Check out our interview here) who channels his inner Gary Cooper into the role of Judge, along with Tatianna Neva who brings a much needed beauty to the films beasts. I jest, but it’s a nice blend of cast with Kerry Goodwin popping up as Lolly and it maybe a BIG cast but its not there just as a feature they drive the story and the action.

Talking of action, yes before you ask we do get a Sumo match, you cant waste that talent without showing it off and like his previous features Alexander doesn’t just make a good film he brings the action and you can’t do a western without a shootout and happy to report we get the BIG finale we wanted with a High Noon slow mo gun toting, cigar chewing stroll through the town while despatching the bad guys with style and gusto. The Wide West is a BIG hit.
