Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui in the 1990s was a neon-soaked playground, a golden era of clubbing that faded after the turn of the millennium. Following the closure of three of the city’s most iconic venues — China Town, Big Boss and Sun Fa Du — a generation of nightlife veterans found themselves facing an uncertain future. Set in the 2010s, NIGHT KING follows the decline of a once-legendary nightclub on the brink of closure; the story mirrors challenges faced by industries worldwide today — financial pressure, contraction and the struggle to remain relevant — the inspiration behind Ng’s comedy drama.

The year is 2012. The once-glamourous Club EJ suddenly experiences a hostile takeover. Much like the nightclub industry, the glory days are over for the club’s manager, Foon (Dayo Wong), despite having stood tall in East Tsim Sha Tsui for decades. To make things worse for Foon, the club’s new CEO is none other than his cutthroat ex-wife, Madame V (Sammi Cheng)! Determined to change things up, she leaves Foon and his hostesses with no choice but to transform and modernize in order to breathe new life into their business. Little do they know, a powerful conglomerate has been pulling the strings all along to shut down Club EJ for good. To save their neon empire, Foon and V must join forces and make an epic last stand with the hostesses against what seems to be inevitable doom.

The real thrill here is seeing Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng bounce off another they have a real chemestry on screen that draws you into their world andkeeps you entertained by their lifestyles. Night King is the perfect Chinese New year film, a mix of drama and comedy, Night King also has a big heart an oceans eleven if you were set around the night life, its a film that’s fun and definately a date night movie.  Night King will warm your heart.
