Do you believe in ghosts, or aliens? You had better believe that one of this year’s most hotly anticipated anime is receiving a very special big screen debut! Anime Limited are excited to announce that DAN DA DAN: First Encounter, a wild and heartfelt love letter to B-movies with the soul of a teen romcom, will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland in a special preview event for one-night only on Friday 13th September, debunking superstitions by giving fans the unmissable opportunity to enjoy a sneak peak of the upcoming series’ first 3 episodes on the big screen.
Based on the popular manga serialised in Shonen JUMP+, the home of Chainsaw Man and Kaiju No.8, DAN DA DAN is a supernatural thriller/romantic comedy mash-up about the unlikely partnership between Momo a street-wise girl from a family of mediums, and Okarun, a bookish boy obsessed with aliens. As the two compete to disprove the existence of the other’s passion, they get caught up in encounters with both spiritual and paranormal, imbuing both teenagers with powers beyond belief – and maybe something else. DAN DA DAN: First Encounter will feature the first 3 episodes of the series, ahead of its broadcast this October, alongside exclusive interviews with key staff including the manga’s original author, Yukinobu Tatsu.
The out-of-this-world humour and energy of DAN DA DAN makes it a perfect fit for the fan-favourite Science SARU (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, The Colors Within), with studio veteran Fuga Yamashiro (INU-OH, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) making his directorial debut, and a pulse-pounding score by celebrated composer kensuke ushio (The Colors Within, Chainsaw Man). The original manga’s author, Yukinobu Tatsu, previously worked as an assistant on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s global hit series Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch.
